Ghana holds first ICT Awards

The first ever Ghana Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Awards was held at the weekend in Accra, with a call on people in the industry to improve their innovative and creative capabilities for the nation's benefit. Ghanaians asked to seek more knowledge in ICT

Mr. Nii Okaija Dinsey, Accra Metropolitan Director of Education, on Tuesday said knowledge in ICT should be considered as a human right issue to make its study compulsory so that it would be accorded the necessary attention it deserved. Mr Dinsey urged Ghanaians who are computer literates to support their less fortunate contemporaries and to go teach them also to gain knowledge in ICT.

Students urged to develop interest in ICT

Gordon, Director-General of the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in Information Communication Technology (ICT) has urged students to embrace the ICT to open up higher horizons for them in their educational pursuits. She said that ICT was now a necessary tool for educational advancement and the growth and development of every nation, hence the need for every student to acquire computer knowledge.

President John Agyekum Kufuor has said Information Communication Technology was no longer a matter of choice but a necessity for enhancing innovation, competitiveness and modernization. This, he said, would usher in opportunities in the achievement of the collective objectives in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to bridge the gap between the rich and poor. President Kufuor said the government of Ghana on her part considered ICT as a very important sector that was critical in the socio-economic development.

UNDP & Ghana Govt to ensure Ghanaians acquire ICT knowledge

Mr Anthony Ampong, Chief Director at the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, on Monday reiterated government's commitment to ensuring that all Ghanaians acquired knowledge in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) since information had become a "vital commodity" for development. He said the policy's overall objective was to engineer an ICT led socio-economic development process that could transform Ghana into a middle income country.

IT enabled service to boost economic growth
ghanaweb 5th July 2007 The Minister of Communication, Professor Mike Oquaye, on Thursday said government had identified Information Technology Enabled Service (ITES) as a priority sector to accelerate economic growth. Thus government is embarking on the ITES drive, which is estimated to create 35,000 additional jobs to the current 2,000 jobs in the offshore sector by 2011, with an added value to the economy of 750 million dollars.
